Fall 2014 WISE Consortium Courses
Available to UNT Department of Library and Information Sciences (DLIS) Students
UNT DLIS is a member of WISE (http://www.wiseeducation.org), a consortium of leading information science education programs. Consortium members make a limited number of seats available in selected online courses to students from other member schools, and the following courses are available for DLIS students for the fall 2014 semester:
- SLIS 5960.071/.075 – Library budgeting: Syracuse University (1 credit hours)
- SLIS 5960.081/.085 – Library fundraising: Syracuse University (1 credit hours)
DLIS students taking these courses will register for SLIS 5960 with the section number designated above (.0x1 is for in-state students and .0x5 is for out-of-state students) and pay standard UNT tuition. The school offering the course will submit the final grade for inclusion on the student's UNT transcript.
How to request space
Note: The priority enrollment request period for the fall 2014 semester is April 21, 2014 – May 4, 2014.
1. Go to http://www.wiseeducation.org
Username: UNTWise
Password: WISE_UNT_student
2. Select "View Details;" make sure that you read the course description and syllabus (if available) carefully. Be sure to double check the course start and end dates as they may be different from UNT.
3. To request a space in the class, click the link, "Request Enrollment in This Class" on the bottom left of the course detail page.
4. Once confirmed, submit the online course request advising form (https://lis.unt.edu/advising-request) to your advisor. Note that you will not be enrolled for course credit until you register for the course through UNT.
IMPORTANT:
- Submitting a space request does not guarantee your enrollment in the class you choose. You will be notified after May 4, 2014 whether a space is available.
- There are only a small number of spaces available in each of these courses. Please have a backup course identified as the spaces are limited.
- The courses use a variety of learning management system, i.e., may not be delivered via Blackboard Vista or Learn.
- WISE courses count as transfer credits. Students may take up to 9 credits from other WISE consortium member schools.
- Make sure that you use the correct section number per list above. Dr. Kim should be selected as the DLIS instructor as she will be the one receiving the grade from the offering school.
If you have questions, Dr. Jeonghyun (Annie) Kim, UNT DLIS WISE administrator, can be contacted at Jeonghyun.Kim@unt.edu or contact the DLIS advising office at 940/565-2445 or ci-advising@unt.edu
