Dear
Houston-area UNT students,
Your
Houston LISSA chapter would like to announce an upcoming field trip and
professional development opportunity for any interested students.
Dara
Flinn, an Archivist/Special Collections Librarian at the Rice University
Fondren Library’s Woodson Research Center, and also a UNT alum, has invited us
to visit the Woodson Research Center for a personal tour and presentation on
the Center and its collections. This is
a rare opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes perspective on what it’s like to
work in an archive or special collections department at a research university.
Even those of you who are interested in public, school, or other types of
libraries may be interested to see how an academic research center works and
what types of materials they deal with.
Please join us on Saturday, Dec.
6, at 10:30 a.m., at the Rice University Fondren Library.
We’ll
meet in the front foyer of the library (Quad/East entrance), next to the
Information Commons, and then make our way back to the Woodson Center.
Here is the link to the campus map and the parking information. Parking is only $1.00/day in the Greenbriar lot (entrance
13A off of Greenbriar), but you’ll have to walk to the nearest shuttle stop and
take the Inner Loop shuttle to the library (the driver can tell you when to get
off). All other lots are by the minute, up to $11.00. I recommend arriving no
later than 10 a.m. to make sure you can get to the library by 10:30.
Please RSVP to John Martin at houstonlissa@gmail.com, by Friday,
Dec. 5, if you plan to attend. We’ve been asked to limit the group to 15 or so,
but we’ll try to accommodate all whou would like to attend.
