This hands-on workshop taught by two music specialists will cover the FRBR framework that underlies RDA and how to find the information you need in the RDA Toolkit. Then we will discuss description, access, and relationships. The workshop will not be music format specific but cover RDA descriptive practices that apply to any format. Questions considered will include ones like these:
· What is the
principal source of information for this thing I am cataloging?
· How do I record
the title and statement of responsibility?
· How do I enter
publication/distribution/manufacture/copyright information?
· What notes
should I enter?
· To what names
or titles should I provide access?
· What
relationship designators should be used for names? For titles?
· If what I’m
cataloging is a “funny format,” what should I be sure to mention in the catalog
record, and how do I do that?
Bring two or three items to catalog – score, sound recording, video, monograph, or whatever you normally handle. During the workshop you will create partial catalog records for these. You will be able to take the records home.
Regular registration
for the pre-conference is $20 and student registration is $10. Lunch will be
provided.
