Library Assistant, Library Practicum Opportunities Available
The Jung Center of Houston has openings for a Bookstore/Library Assistant and a Library Science Practicum. For more information, contact Elissa Davis, Bookstore/Library Manager, at edavis@junghouston.org.

Following are descriptions of the positions.

Bookstore/Library Assistant
Primary Responsibility:
Assist and support the Bookstore Manager as needed. Work will take place on Saturdays and additional hours as needed. This is a paid position.
General Responsibilities:
  • Open and close the building.
  • Assist customers with questions and sales, making quality service a priority.
  • Assist customers in using the Bookstore/Library.
  • Assist Library customers with reference and checkout.
  • Reshelve returned Library books.
  • Process Bookstore sales as necessary.
  • Operate and maintain Library database.
  • Tidy and clean up the Bookstore/Library as necessary.
  • As able, fill in as Bookstore salesperson during Manager’s absence.
  • Call customers when Library books are overdue, at the discretion of the Manager.
  • Make CD copies of lectures and classes as needed.
  • Carry out additional duties as requested by Bookstore/Library Manager or Administrator.

Library Science Practicum
Primary Responsibility:
Assist and support the Bookstore Manager. Work will take place on weekdays and evenings as needed. This is an unpaid position; graduate credit may be arranged at the discretion of your advisor.
General Responsibilities:
  • Assist customers in using the Bookstore/Library.
  • Assist Library customers with reference and checkout.
  • Reshelve returned Library books.
  • Operate and maintain Library database.
  • Maintain a record of overdue books and contact customers about overdue books.
  • Withdraw missing, lost, or damaged books, and books overdue by two years or more.
  • Enter new books into the library holdings and database, as appropriate.
  • Prepare books and periodicals for loan and reference shelves.
  • Mend damaged books.
  • Assist with Bookstore/Library inventory process.
  • Process IRSJA thesis papers and create digital archive.
  • Carry out additional duties as requested by Bookstore/Library Manager or Administrator.
