John Edward Martin, Houston LISSA Student Coordinator

Hello Everyone:

Sorry it's been a while since our last update, but this summer we've been in the process of passing the baton! My name is John Martin, and I'll be taking over from kYm keeton as the new Houston LISSA Coordinator for the coming year. I'm a second year student in the MSIS program, with a focus on academic librarianship, and special interests in information literacy & instruction, humanities reference, academic publishing, digital humanities, and issues of intellectual freedom and information access.  I'm coming from a background in academia (15 years as an English professor and writing instructor), and so I have a particular interest in the role of librarians as educators and scholars.

I'm looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible, and I'll be posting some ideas and plans for the coming year on this blog and on our Facebook page in the next few days. I'll also be soliciting your input on things you might like to do: happy hours, study sessions, professional development, or whatever else you have in mind. Please feel free to drop me a note anytime. And, of course, I'm happy to receive tips, links, information about resources, jobs or anything you'd care to share with the group. Hope you're all having a great summer. Keep an eye out for more to come.

John
